Rugs USA Rugs Home Decoration

Rugs USA might be an online-first company, but they are far from being the new kid on the block. They started their business over 20(!) years ago. Yes, the internet already existed back then.

They boast that they help customers “turn their house into a home” with their rug selection, and bold as this statement is, it might even be true.

Rugs USA offers a stunning array of rugs in a number of styles and varieties, covering practically all the rug needs of a contemporary household. They also offer all the styles that are currently popular with interior designers and homeowners alike.

When you open their Styles dropdown menu, you’ll be faced with the following choices:

  • Bohemian Rugs
  • Washable Rugs
  • Outdoor Rugs
  • Vintage Rugs
  • Shag Rugs
  • Moroccan Rugs
  • Geometric Rugs
  • Solid & Stripe Rugs
  • Kid Rugs
  • Oriental & Persian Rugs
  • Contemporary Rugs

…and this is only what they highlight in their main navigation bar! Long story short, if you have a specific style in mind when searching for a rug, chances are that Rugs USA has something on offer for you.

Rugs USA Rugs Furnishing

Rugs USA is one of the few companies that stayed true to their original profile. They practically only sell rugs.

Sure, there are a few laps in their store as well, but they definitely don’t sell furniture, wall decoration, pillows, and all the other stuff almost every rug store have on stock nowadays. Even their laps are available only because they were specifically designed to match specific rugs in their selection.

Rugs USA Rugs

Okay, we all know that rugs brought us here (and not lamps), so finally let’s get down to business.

And while we’re at it, it’s worth mentioning that Rugs USA has sold over 8 million rugs over its lifetime, so they know a thing or two about rugs for sure.

And about online shopping, too. One of the key points of Rugs USA is that they make the online shopping experience so extremely smooth and streamlined, that it’s a joy compared to most other online web stores.

Sure, you can argue that you only buy the rug once, but you will use it for years to come, and you’re right. Still the online experience matters. If you are reading this review, chances are that you have already spent a substantial amount of time looking for the perfect rug for you. Making that experience better is no doubt an added value for every customer.

Are Rugs USA Rugs Good Quality?

Rugs USA sells high-quality rugs. What’s best about the company is its price-value ratio. While the products are of high quality, Rugs USA keeps its price point surprisingly low.

Most of Rugs USA’s products have plenty (at least a few hundred, and in some cases thousands) of reviews, most reviewers rating the products between 4 or 5 stars.

Not bad for something as affordable as Rugs USA.

Are Rugs USA Rugs non toxic?

While the raw materials of rugs are not toxic in themselves, and this includes synthetic fibres, like polypropylene or polyester, there are many ways during in which rugs can be exposed to toxic materials during a production process.

The two most risky phases are dying – whether the dye itself is toxic or not – and then when the fibres are treated with additional chemicals to achieve certain characteristics: to make it more soft to the touch; to make it stain-resistant, to make it flame-retardant, etc.

Rugs USA doesn’t publish much on its production procedures, but as a hint, they do have a non-toxic rugs filter on their website.

As I write this, Rugs USA has 59 non-toxic rugs on offer, most of them jute rugs, and a few hand-woven wool rugs.

If you consider, that the company has about 4,000 rugs on stock altogether, you have to conclude that most of their rugs are not non-toxic, meaning that they were exposed to toxic materials, like dyes or chemicals at one point or another during their production procedure.

Are Rugs USA Rugs machine washable?

While not all Rugs USA rugs are machine washable, the company has a sizable collection of machine-washable rugs to choose from. These rugs are mostly made of synthetic fibers, like polypropylene and polyester, and unlike Ruggable rugs, they don’t come separately in the shape of a rug cover and rug pad, they are rather one-piece items, making life a bit more convenient, if less versatile.

Rugs USA’s machine washable collection covers practically all major styles and all popular sizes, so if you are into this practical consideration (which is a good idea, especially if you plan to place the rug in a high-traffic area of your home), you don’t have to worry about a limited selection.

Are Rugs USA Rugs made in the USA?

Don’t let the brand and the nametag fool you: while Rugs USA is a US company with its headquarters located on Long Island, New York, the vast majority of the rugs they sell are from outside the US.

Countries of origin include all the usual suspects: Turkey, China, India, Pakistan, and others.

So, the short answer is no, Rugs USA rugs are not made in the USA.

Are Rugs USA Rugs soft?

The predominant majority of Rugs USA rugs are made of synthetic fibres, mostly polypropylene and polyester, which are known to be extremely soft and plush, and feel really comfy underfoot.

Even the rugs that are made of wool or cotton can be soft enough in most of the cases, although don’t expect them to provide you with the same comfort as a synthetic-made shag rug would.

Of course not all rugs that the company sell are soft: no one in their right mind would expect a jute, a sisal or an outdoor rug to be soft – but if comfy is what you’re after, you’ll still find more than enough Rugs USA rugs to choose from.

Are Rugs USA Rugs handmade?

You can’t have it all. Rugs USA sells premium quality rugs at an affordable price point, but as you would expect most of these rugs are mass produced, using synthetic materials.

With that said, however, as I write this review, there remains plenty of exceptions: at the time of this writing Rugs USA had over 500 different handmade rugs on stock. Which can be a lot to choose from.

Most of these handmade rugs are Moroccan rugs, traditional or bohemian rugs with a low pile height, or jute or braided rugs.

Best of all, even these, handmade rugs are unlikely to break the bank: they are obviously more expensive than their machine-made peers, but they are still reasonably-priced, with an average 6’x9′ area rug staying in the few hundreds range, and nowhere near the 4-digit mark.

Oh, and many of them are on sale.

Are Rugs USA Rugs ethically made?

At this point we were unable to verify whether Rugs USA makes efforts in order to have its products ethically made. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the rugs are not made ethically, but it most likely indicates that Rugs USA doesn’t put much effort in its rugs to be ethically made, and it most definitely puts no effort whatsoever into advertising its ethics-related practices.

The Rugs USA website doesn’t have a section addressing its ethics policies, in fact, searching the site for ethics or ethical returns zero results.

Rugs USA is not a member of Oria, the trade organization that promotes the ethical trade and import of oriental rugs in the USA.

How expensive are Rugs USA Rugs?

When it comes to quality rugs – even when you compare it to rug produced rugs, Rugs USA products tend to be on the cheaper or more affordable end of the price spectrum.

Rugs USA says it is able to keep their prices low and quality high by maintaining close relationships with the designers, artisans, and factories who make their goods.

In actual dollars it means that most 6’x9′ area rugs would normally go somewhere between $300 and $600, and if you get lucky, and the rug you are after is on sale, you can often get it in the neighbourhood of $200, which is a bargain.

Rugs USA Rugs Styles

Rugs USA covers all major and popular interior design and home décor styles, from Bohemian to Vintage, Contemporary, Oriental, Geometric, and Solid rugs.

With that said, there is one style that stands out when it comes to Rugs USA.

They are big on Moroccan Rugs. Mass produced Moroccan Rugs, that is. In fact, it was Rugs USA that created the Moroccan Trellis Rug, that was named The Rug by The New York Times in 2018, and created a phenomenon in and of itself.

Where to buy Rugs USA Rugs Online?

This one is a no-brainer. Since Rugs USA is an online company, the obvious choice to buy Rugs USA rugs is from the company’s own website.

Unless, of course, you want to buy second-hand, in which case, eBay is your friend.

Rugs USA Rugs Amazon

You’re out of luck here. Amazon doesn’t sell Rugs USA rugs.

Rugs USA Rugs Collections

Rugs USA focuses on certain trends, styles, technologies and materials, but it chose not to organize its products in collections like many other rug and home decor companies do.

Rugs USA Rugs Materials

Rugs USA produces mostly synthetic fibre rugs in order to keep the price down while maintaining its product quality to please the customers.

The vast majority of Rugs USA rugs (around 3,000 of the 4,000 rugs altogether) are made of polypropylene, polyester, nylon, or a combination of these materials.

With that said, we can find examples of all other popular rug raw materials on their website, too. We can find a number of cotton and wool rugs (roughly 500 each), and a few jute and sisal rugs, too.

Rugs USA Rugs Collaborations

While Rugs USA is not particularly big on designer collaborations, there are occasions when they make an exception, and cooperate with a chosen designer.

The most recent example for a collaboration of this kind is the Lauren Liess x Rugs USA collaboration that debuted in November, 2022.
