Reviewing Jake Arnold for Lulu and Georgia – is it worth the hype?

Modern, organic, tactile, and luxe characteristics describe the Jake Arnold for Lulu and Georgia collection that was launched a few weeks ago on one of our fav home décor sites. But are these rugs actually worth the hype they are surrounded with? Let’s take a deeper look!

Interior designer Jake Arnold has been around the block for a while now, so it’s only natural that his rug collection with one of the highest-reputed women-run rug brands will stir the still water. We will now have a close look to see whether the rugs live up to the expectations

Who is Jake Arnold

Although he launched his company just about three years ago, it might seem that interior designer Jake Arnold has been around the block for a while now. On top of boosting his own interior design service company, he also launched The Expert, an online platform that first freaked out then just about revolutionized the very conservative and traditional home décor industry by connecting high-profile service providers with their future clients.

Suffice to say that earlier this year, The Expert drew in a $12 Million investment to venture into the e-commerce space, which, in the middle of a recession and a funding winter, is a remarkable accomplishment in and of itself.

His private interior design consultancy is not too shabby either: he has commissions from coast to coast, with celebrity clients like John Legend, Katy Perry or Sophia Bush.

Jake Arnold for Lulu and Georgia is another step in his career to make sure he takes the interior design and home décor space by storm.

His style is luxe, bold, and sometimes dramatic, yet simple and relatable. He creates spaces that make a statement but are real-life and liveable, and his high-profile clients seem to appreciate this.

“I want this collection to make people feel like they can have a piece of Jake Arnold in their home so that everyone can feel inspired, warm and cozy in their space,” Jake says about his new collection he designed exclusively for Lulu and Georgia, a brand that fully aligns with Jake’s design principles.

“We design and curate the best and latest in interior design, make it accessible, and keep you up-to-date on cutting-edge trends in the industry,” Lulu and Georgia founder Sara Sugarman says, so the chemistry between the designer and the brand seems like a match made in heaven. But how does it look laying on the floor?

Jake Arnold x Lulu and georgia

It’s clear that the earth tones of the collection have a truly organic and very liveable look and feel to them. It shows that Arnold doesn’t like to over-complicate things.

The designs, while unique and characteristic, build up from very traditional elements. This is not surprising when we learn that inspiration for the collection was garnered on the designer’s European trip, most particularly at a stop in Provance with Atelier Vime.

It also suggests a basic approach: keeping the customer in mind.

The designs, while striking, clearly anchor the rooms they are put in, and vividly interact with the different spaces.

This is all elevated to a new level when we look at the materials used: casual, luxurious, yet highly functional. Viscose for a soft feel, luster, and linen to provide the touch, wool, and natural jute fibers both for texture and endurance especially when the rugs are being used at high traffic areas.

Fifty shades of – brown

When you look through the collection, you’ll notice a consistent use of a very reserved color palette, namely a number of shades of brown.

This is a conscious decision and stays in line with Jake Arnold’s personal style:  he says the color “instantly grounds a space, warms everything up, and works amazingly against a variety of woods.” We have to agree.

The rugs are bold statements but are in no way overwhelming or overly spectacular. They allow for other design elements to gain some attention, which, in most cases is a necessary requirement of a large area rug.

The synergy with hardwood floors is also a suggestion to stay with a coherent look and feel for the entire concept of the house. But on the other hand, hardwood floors are not necessary to make this rug collection work.

The layering of various materials and textures, like wood and jute, piles and wool provides room to experience different combinations that will all work, albeit with different results and moods.

“I think what this rug collection does best is give every single person the opportunity to feel like their home is their safe space,” Jake adds.

While his collaboration with esteemed Lulu and Georgia is his latest gig, there are other places where you can meet his work. Apart from booking a direct consultation with him, it is worth mentioning his capsule collection of curated foundational pieces that debuted earlier this year on Parachute – another much-loved, feel-good home décor destination.

While that collection does not focus on rugs, the pieces follow the same design philosophy, and by the way, they work extremely well with items in the current, Lulu and Georgia collection – so if you like Jake Arnold’s style, and you would want to purchase items at affordable price points, make sure you check out that collection, too.
